COURSE Yes, we already talked about that. NO, the course won’t be free of snow unless Mother Nature (or some other mother…) deems it so. If it’s really bad we’ll actually groom it so that it’s not as bad as it was in 2014 just to keep people from jumping all over Marathon Don’s back. In case of REALLY SEVERE conditions, we have a certified alternate route that’s 12 loops instead of 6, but our timing guys really hope we don’t have to use it.
Experience the Big Easy first hand as you run through the French Quarter, along Esplanade Ave, Jackson Square, and City Park, all awhile running and next to the same floats seen at the world famous Mardi Gras festival.

Runners who cannot make the needed time checkpoints at every mile are encouraged to stop as there will not be traffic control, water tables, or a finish time provided to those participants. While they will not be forced to stop, any runners who continue must do so unsupported on the sidewalk and not in the road. Unsupported means that police will not be available to stop traffic at intersections and runners will be responsible for their own safety.

This is a small, rural, community race and isn’t a big money maker; to us it’s more about getting together to celebrate our love of the outdoors and running.

It and its sister race, the Pikes Peak Ascent, each climb about 7,800 vertical feet up the historic Barr Trail on the east face of the mountain. The Ascent, which climbs 13.3 miles to finish at the summit, used to be held on the same day as the Marathon but became its own event in the 1980s due to its popularity.
