The mini-marathon as part of the Kassel Marathon is the highlight of the event for many. It’s an amazing atmosphere when the 4,000 to 5,000 kids walk into the Auestadion on Saturday afternoon, celebrated by their fans, family and friends. This is pure goose bumps and the enthusiasm of the young athletes knows no bounds.
The mini-marathon is now the largest competition in terms of numbers within the entire Kassel Marathon. They are proud of the development, because this makes the mini-marathon one of the big ones in Germany, only very few organizers can boast more starters in the school sector.
Starters from over 100 schools in Kassel and the region regularly take part in the mini-marathon. From a handful of runners to well over 100 - depending on the school, the participation varies greatly. The commitment of teachers, support associations or parents has grown over the years. Many of them put their heart and soul into it, the schools have their own preparation and training groups, and the kids are looking forward to the event all year round. 5235 registered mini-marathoners set a record in 2015. Starting with 300 participants, the number has increased continuously since the first time. The run on the starting places has long since turned the mini-marathon into a maxi event on the day before the actual marathon.
